Racing Dreams (***1/2)

By Todd Jorgenson

A treat for NASCAR fans and non-fans alike, this documentary focuses on three kids ages 12 and 13 who compete at the highest levels of the World Karting Association, which often is a launching pad for the sport’s top drivers. The film follows their success on the track, but also their insecurities off of it, ranging from the domestic troubles of one kid to another family’s struggle to find sponsors. Director Marshall Curry assembles a compelling film that offers fresh insight into contemporary kids trying to follow their dreams.
